If you or a loved one have ADHD, unfortunately, you may have already encountered stigma from others. Stigma is an issue accompanying many mental health disorders, ADHD included.
ADHD is a health issue that is diagnosed mainly based on subjective information, such as reports from teachers and parents. This causes an increased impact that cultural and societal differences will have on the diagnostic rates of a particular group and can decrease the odds that an individual will be properly diagnosed and treated, to the patient’s detriment .
We know that battling the stigma presented against yourself or an individual you know is tough but we also believe that you are empowered and that you are not alone. You can build a team of warriors to help you battle the stigma such as peers from ADHD support groups or family members. If you need an extra shield against stigma, you should speak to your physician or therapist and they will be amazing assets in helping you defeat and overcome stigma you may encounter.
