PREVENTION

ADHD is a mental illness that often affects people who are genetically predisposed to it through family history. However, there are, as seen above, preventable maternal risk factors.
If you are pregnant and you follow guidelines already provided by your physician, then chances are that you are doing everything in your capability to ensure that your child is not likely to have ADHD. Generally, healthy habits during pregnancy such as refraining smoking and alcohol consumption can reduce likelihood of children being diagnosed with ADHD.
Additionally, be sure to eat healthy and wash fruits well because. unwashed fruits may contain PCBs which are chemicals from pesticides. Maternal exposure to these pesticides may increase the likelihood of your child being born with ADHD.
Also be sure to visit your physician at the recommended follow up dates to ensure that you are on the right track in terms of maintaining your blood pressure at a healthy level for yourself and your baby.
